Hon. Lady Justice Rugadya, Head of Land Division

The Head of the Land Division, Hon. Lady Justice Alexandra Nkonge Rugadya recently met newly deployed staff of the Division, in her chambers at Twed Towers in Kampala.

The purpose of the meeting was to enable introductions, provide insight into the structure of the Division, and address challenges.

Hon. Lady Justice Rugadya encouraged the newly deployed staff who included, Record Officers, court clerks, office attendants and secretaries, to aspire for greatness. She urged them to pursue further studies and strive to eliminate corruption and other negative habits.

The Head of Division said she is set to retire and wanted to leave a legacy of integrity within the Division.

Emphasizing the Division's commitment to integrity, she informed the new staff that the Land Division is not intended for money-making, and discouraged any involvement incorrupt practices.

Hon. Lady Justice Rugadya also stressed the importance of wearing identification badges for proper recognition and emphasized the significance of punctuality, urging the newly deployed staff to be in office by 8:00 a.m.

Furthermore, she cautioned against soliciting money from litigants or lawyers, highlighting the potential consequences such actions could bring.

The newly deployed staff raised several challenges, notably the misuse of the Court Seal where it was observed that court users, especially lawyers, are utilizing the Court Seal without proper consultation or oversight, which poses a significant risk to the authenticity of documents.

Additionally, concerns were raised about the outdated computers provided, with some being slow and lacking basic functionalities like internet access. This, they said, makes it difficult to access proceedings and print documents resulting in workload challenges and making tasks more time-consuming.
